http://wiki.ubuntulinux.org/HardwareSupport only had 4 wifi cards listed, I think it is the orinoko/prisum(?) chipsets that are generaly suported. The following link may be of some use

If you check the wiki(http://wiki.ubuntulinux.org/HardwareSupport ) it
list some wifi cards known to work with Ubuntu. Also you can google
around and see what all 802.11g cards are supported, at least that is
how I normally do it.
