excitement was quickly quenched when it failed to pick up my monitor
settings and I am stuck in 640X480 mode within gnome on my Dell
Inspiron 8200 Laptop with a 15" monitor and NVidia GeForce4 440 video
card. Anybody else experiencing this after installation? Any help
would be much appreciated.

I'm running Debian testing on a Inspiron 8100 with a Geforce2 Go card.
So i' aware of the nvidia stuff.
Tried Ubuntu but could not even get anything on the screen (mayby
something to do with the usb support :-( ). However, since y'v got a
screen it might be an idea to get the latest driver from the nvidia
site and just run it. I had to pick up the kerner source and headers
and after that it just worked smoothly.
Compared to my previous two years of ... this was delicious.

I'm guessing the same would probably resolve your issue as well.

Good luck,
Cheers,
