Yeah, I noticed this too. All of my partitions are logical partitions
within an extended one (well, except the one for XP and BSD).

Uncomment the two lines found in /etc/apt/sources.list that mention
restricted and universe. This willl give you access to an additional
12000 unsupported packages. lyx, etc. are in there.
