Apologies. Initially dropped the list address from this:

Thanks, Fabio. I've installed the nvidia driver, et al. However, I get
the proverbial "No Screens Found" error. The log shows the module loads
correctly, but then adds this:
"(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! "(EE)
NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** "(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia" "(II)
UnloadModule: "vgahw" "(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
"(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
"Fatal server error: "no screens found"
This also happens when I install dbus/hal on debian-unstable. Without
dbus and hal, the nvidia driver is fine. With them, it isn't. I've never
found a fix.
Also, fwiw, "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" did not write a new
XF86Config-4. I did the md5sum thing, just in case, but still no go. I
ran dpkg-reconfigure 3 times. It did remember by values I had entered,
just
didn't seem to write them out.
