GRUB error after first boot

Mitja,

Like you, I've had problems with GRUB and Ubuntu, and like you, I can install FC2 and it works just fine on my system (can even dual boot without problems). However, my issues are related to trying to dual boot with Ubuntu where it appears you are not.

The GRUB manual (http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html) says the following about the error you are seeing:

"Hard Disk Error

The stage2 or stage1.5 is being read from a hard disk, and the attempt to determine the size and geometry of the hard disk failed."

Now as to why, with a single HD and not dual-booting, you would be seeing this error I'm going to have to defer to a more knowledgeable person. Since you had not installed anything on this system prior to Ubuntu, I cannot see why you would get reported geometry or size errors. I couldn't find anything that seemed related in Bugzilla or in a quick Google search.

What do you see when you run fdisk -l from a terminal?

Best Regards,

Bob
