with gedit you can specify if you want to save the document in your
local encoding or in utf-8, so this problem is weird.

Could you give all the steps to reproduce the problem ?
1- which source document you use
2- how to copy/paste (middle click, ctrl+C/ctrl+V, ...)
3- when do you get the error (when you paste ? when you save ?)
4- which encoding are you trying to use ?

No, the text is ok.

You can pick the Charactere Coding when you "save as", that should work
