wireless network card

I am a linux newbie and even newer to ubuntu. I just installed the
latest warty release on an old compaq with an AMD duron 800 mhz
processor. several things are not running properly but the first that I
want to get worked out is the inability to configure my wireless network
card.  I have a Linksys WUSB 11 ver 2.6 usb wireless nic.  This unit
worked fine with Mandrake 10.0 but I didn't like Mandrake all that much.
If I have the card plugged in and I check my device manager it shows the
linksys wusb11 connected to the machine.  The problem is that it reads
the card as an unknown device and I have not learned enough to know how
to edit how a device is read.  

If any one has a workaround for this problem please let me know
