It also might be helpful to know exactly what kind of printer you're sharing
also. And are you able to ping or traceroute to the Windows box's IP
address as well?

Someone else may recognise these symptoms straight off, in which case they
may be able to give more immediate help. In case they don't though, perhaps
you could give a little more detail? If I understand correctly, you have a
printer on a Windows box and you're trying to use it from Ubuntu. Is this
correct?
If so, can you tell us which version of Windows (exactly!) - it can make a
difference - for example Windows XP home and Pro have some differences in
file and printer sharing.
Also - what credentials did you use (username, password etc.) if any when
you set up the printer on Ubuntu?
Also - have you tried sharing a folder on the Windows box and accessing it
froim Ubuntu? If so, did this work? May give us some clues as to the level
at which the problem lies.
