Question for skype users

Managed to installed skype yesterday and am going to go and get a
headset today.  My question is what type of headsets are best.  One
with a couple of 3.5MM jacks seem the simplest but I guess if this is
plugged in you will not here when someone rings you (unless you
actually have the headset on.   Is it possible for when skype rings to
have this going through speakers but the telephone conversation to be
through line in/out.

I suppose USB headsets would allow you to also have external speakers
plugged in but the technology is more complex/difficult to get
working.

I guess you could have external speakers plugged into the audio out
and the headset only plugged into mike/line in if you did not mind
other people hearing.

Or is it possible to use line in/out for the headset and audio out for
the PC speakers?
