Single click results in double click

Some people have experienced this too - me included. It was tracked down
by someone else as being two mouse device entries in the XF86Config.
You may be able to fix it by running (from a terminal)
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
and selecting /dev/input/mice as your mouse device, then logging
out/back in again.
If that doesn't help, you may need to open up /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 by
hand and editing out any duplicate mouse entries ... but the
dpkg-reconfigure fixed *my* problem with double clicks ...
