When I encountered this problem, I tried using dpkg-reconfigure. I then
looked in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and found that both mouse entries were
still there. I had to manually remove the "Generic Mouse" InputDevice
section, and the corresponding line from the ServerLayout section.
