Make sure that you're running the latest kernel; several bugs with identical
symptoms have been fixed since the preview release.
If you're running 2.6.8.1-11, file a bug with the following information:
- complete dmesg output
- results of booting with the 'noapic' option
- results of booting with the 'pci=noacpi' option
- results of booting with the 'acpi=off' option
