Synaptic issues

If it was recursive you'd wind up with nothing installed(or near too
it, assuming you just ignored the big WARNINGS that would be there and
hit y :D )
ubuntu-desktop depends on what is needed for the normal install, but
nothing actually depends on it.

This is a little grey to be but I imagine that a newer version simply
relies or newer versions of the packages it depends on but since these
would be updated anyway you should be able to safetly remove it and
upgrade peacefully.
