good.
i read there is a command for later cleanup.
is this also available from synaptic ?

on hoary.

great.
a persistent log file could really help debug installation problems.

it could later also be used for reversing updates (multiple undo) ?

to know if something comes from ubuntu or debian-marillat for example.

to favour "main restricted" over main/marillat over universe over
multiverse.
you write this is already partly possible (sections).
that would be the second column ?
until today i saw only two symbols there:
the ubuntu symbol or empty.
today i see no ubuntu symbol there anymore, only debian or empty.

ah, nice :-)

today the progress window from "reload" often changes shape
because when it first shows it is too small,
so it goes back and forth between bigger and smaller again.

to be honest i only discovered the functionality
of the four buttons on the lower left today.
the usual interface for them would be to be
on top of their results window,
and to be in the shape of four tabs.
they are very helpful of course.

is there an advantage in closing all apps
before updating a system ?

yesterday i got "broken pipe" during an update
the first time i tried, maybe because the computer was
unresponsive at that time (massive swaps).

today while still using synaptic 0.55-1ubuntu3,
"preselect updates" did not alert me to the fact
that ubuntu desktop should be updated but would not
be selected because there is a conflict with my libfam0c102.
when i tried to remove that, there was a list
of other parts that would have to be removed
(gamin, wvdial etc).
why were these parts not listed in the list
of parts to remove when installing ubuntu-desktop ?
shouldn't the verification be recursive ?

is it better to update ubuntu-desktop or not ?
does it have something to do with the eggdesktop problems ?

kind regards philippe
