gnome "mounted" network shares

Is it not possible to access Samba shares that were "mounted" with the
"Connect to server" option in Nautilus? It works great for accessing
my files and moving them around, but when I'm in an application and
try to open remote files with "File > Open", I can't figure out where
(or if) those shares are accessible.

I like most of the functionality through Nautilus, but if applications
can't access those remote files, I guess I'm going to have to go back
to the old fashioned mounting methods.

Any thoughts?
