kannel segfaults at startup on amd64 ubuntu

Hello.

I installed kannel 1.2.1-5 from universe on amd64, and it segfaulted
upon startup.  kannel_1.2.1-5_i386.deb from Debians repositories works
fine on a Debian sarge AMD Duron, however.

I have installed the src deb, and am going to have a try at building
from source, but I imagine this would result in the same thing, unless I
play with compile options and such.

Does any anyone have any advice on how to proceed, or where to look
for the most likely amd64 breakers?
