Need "rc.local", Ubuntu doesn't have one

If you add a new file (such as rc.local) to /etc/init.d and run
update-rc.d, it won't be affected by a future update, since no packages
contain that file.  I do this all the time.  Where you get into trouble 
is making changes to files installed by packages, although there are 
ways to handle it cleanly.
