Thank you very much for the replies folks. I'm sorry about my excess of
enthusiasm but sometimes I find this community so helpful that I forget
that people take their free time to answer someone else's problems.
Above all I would like to thank everyone around here for that time
spent to help the less fortunate/informed. :)
BTW the moderators do a great job preventing people like me from being
flamed with their kind advices. Thank you very much Ubuntuforums
team!!!!

One thing is I still have problems with the game. Do I have to own the
original Windows version? Here's the output of my command line:

> QuakeIIForge 0.3
> using /home/ricardo/.quake2/baseq2/ for writing
> couldn't exec default.cfg
> execing config.cfg
> Console initialized.

> sound sampling rate: 11025
> ------------------------------------
> ------- Loading ref_softx.so -------
> LoadLibrary("ref_softx.so")
> No joysticks found
> SNDDMA_Shutdown
> recursive shutdown
> Error: Couldn't load pics/colormap.pcx

Any Ideas? (I installed the packages specified in the above replies)
