VNC startup

I believe, ( I say believe, because I uninstalled the feature) there is
in an option under Desktop settings or System Settings for your "vnc"
though it is called "Remote Desktop". But also, somewhere in those
settings you can set so you can log into the machine right from the
login screen (gdm).

I personally just leave ssh open on my machine and when I need to use
vnc, I ssh into it and start the vncserver (vncserver :1 -geometry
1024x768) and when I'm done I ssh back in and kill it with (vncserver
-kill :1), that way I don't need to leave any ports open unnecessarily.
