[ubuntu-us] Next US Teams Project Meeting

Zelut,

I voted you for Team Contact. I believe I may have even nominated you
for it. However, the only power you were afforded was that of a
contact to Ubuntu in regards to the web site and mailing list. If
you'd like, I'll go dig up the meeting discussion for you to take a
look, as you seem to have forgotten such. The consensus was a) yes
team contact, b) no team leader. This vote, as well, was on the spot,
with whoever was present at around midnight in the US Teams channel.
It was extremely informal, and with no notice whatsoever. We didn't,
however, think this an issue, because of how insignificant a position
it was. Over the past months, you have presented yourself to have much
more authority than you were ever given. This was a slow and gradual
change, indicative that the team does, in fact, need a team leader, as
leaders generally only spring up when there is need for one. For that
reason, I am for this vote.

Keep in mind, two key duties of a US Teams leader are to a) recognize
when there is a need to do things as a US Teams Leader, and to be
considered the authority on a topic, and b) recognize all the times
there isn't, and when it is best to seek a group decision. I think
that, before we elect any leader, we need to also have a discussion as
to what authority a team leader has, including the scope and amount of
such authority. Furthermore, we need to discuss the term of a team
leader; your position as team contact was open-ended. Terms generally
range from a few months to a year; you have been team contact for 5
months now. I believe that the term of Team Leader should be 6 months,
with discussion of said Leader's performance (and the option of
calling for a vote over the fitness of the current leader) every 2
months.

In summary, you were voted in as Team Contact, not as Team Leader,
which is what you have become. This is not a usurping of your
position; this is the creation of Team Leader, which happens to
include the position of Team Contact. I originally voted for a team
contact and no team leader; this appears not to be possible, as the
position of team contact has evolved into the position of team leader.
As my first choice isn't possible, my second choice is for the team to
decide what authority a leader has, and to elect a leader based on
those duties. If others feel you are qualified for such a position,
then someone will nominate you for it.

Regards,
Joe Terranova
