Not sure if you've tried this before, but Broadcom cards often require
non-free firmware.  I don't know about Kubuntu, but under the GNOME
flavor you can use the restricted driver manager to install it.
You'll need a temporary wired connection of some kind to download it;
licensing issues prevent it from being included on the CD.
