For those that are interested in helping test the *next* Ubuntu release
(yes, I know, Feisty just came out) the first alpha release is available
as of today. Information below on a few known bugs and download
locations. If you have time / spare machines / etc please help us
squash bugs and continue to improve Ubuntu!

“TWO whoops. I stop dead in my tracks and listen. Silence. Another whoop.
Another silence. And suddenly, in a burst of pure tones, the ancient
symphony begins. The forest stills, overwhelmed, transfixed. Each time,
these moments of the old song are new to me. These moments of the
life-song
of the hoolock gibbon, echoing richly through the forest, scudding
through
the sunbeams, filling the heavens and stirring the earth. It is the
call of
the deep, dark rainforest.”
-- Kashmira Kakati, who studies the world of the hoolock gibbons
in the Borajan reserve forest in Assam
Welcome to Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 1, which will in time become Ubuntu 7.10.
Pre-releases of Gutsy are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a
stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into
occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for
Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting,
and fixing bugs.
Tribe 1 is the first in a series of milestone CD images that will be
released throughout the Gutsy development cycle. The Tribe images are
known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs,
while representing a very recent snapshot of Gutsy. You can download
it here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/tribe-1/ (Ubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/gutsy/tribe-1/ (Kubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/releases/gutsy/tribe-1/ (Edubuntu)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/gutsy/tribe-1/ (Xubuntu)
See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors for a list of mirrors.
The primary changes from Feisty have been the re-merging of changes
from Debian. Common to all variants, we have upgraded the kernel to
2.6.22.
Please refer to http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/tribe1 for information on
changes in Ubuntu, https://wiki.kubuntu.org/GutsyGibbon/Tribe1/Kubuntu for
changes in Kubuntu, and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GutsyGibbon/Tribe1/Xubuntu
for Xubuntu details.
This is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some
bugs. Among these are the following (so you don't need to bother
reporting these if you encounter them):
* The Gnome logout dialog does not offer suspend and hibernate.
https://launchpad.net/bugs/118537
* When using manual partitioning, the Kubuntu desktop installer
will sometimes generate a crash report. However, it will continue to
work, so the report can safely be ignored.

If you're interested in following the changes as we further develop
Gutsy, have a look at the gutsy-changes mailing list:
http://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/gutsy-changes
We also suggest that you subscribe to the ubuntu-devel-announce list
if you're interested in following Ubuntu development. This is a
low-traffic list (a few posts a week) carrying announcements of
approved specifications, policy changes, alpha releases, and other
interesting events.

Bug reports should go to the Ubuntu bug tracker:
