Ian,

The simplest solution (in my experience) with Flash+FF is to download
the plugin from adobe.com and run the installer as root. You'll have
to tell it where the plugin directory is (/usr/lib/firefox) for FF
then (re)start FF and you're golden.

As for NTFS-3g, did you look through
