It's a little more complicated than that, I think you have to double 
comment them out "##". However, the package for the kernel does remove 
these entries when it is removed, that's why I suggest having Synaptic 
do it or "autoremove" do it.
Regardless, the /boot/grub/menu.lst file is very well commented, and you 
can pretty easily comment out the ones you don't want. Don't forget to 
run "sudo update-grub" when you're done.
