To be honest, even if it were using an open protocol such as VOIP-SIP,
Skype would be unlikely to get much of the Linux market. For calling
landlines, Skype is very expensive compared to VOIP-SIP providers such
as www.sipgate.co.uk or www.webcalldirect.com (which has 300 minutes a
week of inclusive landline calls, to most of the Western world,
providing you deposit at least 6 quid every 3 months).

I wrote a HowTo on setting up a Linux-powered VOIP-SIP router, the
Linksys SPA3102 (40 quid), so you can make free/cheap calls from your
existing BT landline using normal BT extensions and handsets, whilst
still receiving incoming calls on your existing BT number.
