Hi Ted,
Can't help with the exact model, but the memory card in my Sony
Ericsson P1i is read absolutely fine in Ubuntu. So long as I remember
to save things from the phone (eg photos) onto the card, I have no
trouble. Dragged and dropped some mp3s which showed up fine when I
disconnected.
No idea about e-mail, sorry!
