killall esd or not?

Hello everybody!
Happy to join you. I've just instal ubuntustudio on a Compaq Presario R3000.
I've an EDIROL UA-25 as audio card, but Jack don't recognise audioout and
in. In the patchage the UA-25 appaer but only the midi plugins. When I
listen a song on Totem or a video, it use the UA-25, but when I link
hydrogen, for example, it use the inside speaker of my computer. Anyway the
UA-25 is not recognise entirely.
I red that sometime it could be due to ESD, but I have disactivate the mix
sound software (ESD) in the sound menu of system preferences.
Is anyone have an idea?
