That's because, even if you start Jack, things still needs to be 
internally patched to the outputs using Carla, QJackCtl, or Patchage. 
That's expected behavior. There's an entire wiki document on Ubuntu 
Studio Controls at

As Len would tell you, that's work-in-progress. You can still use 
QJackCtl for monitoring Jack, but do uncheck the option to stop Jack 
when you exit in its preferences.

Pretty much all I did with that was fork Lubuntu's splash, replace the 
Lubuntu graphic, and change the background color(s). It works fine, but 
I'll probably tweak it a little for the next release.
