Full ACK. Perhaps this has to be addressed to freedesktop.org, since IMO
interoperability is important.

No, Linux made several steps into the wrong direction and it's hard to
win over the community to do some steps back. In Germany Linux replaced
Windows for some local authorities, now they switch back to Windows.
I'll stay at Linux, but I'm thinking about buying a Windows and to
install it to my - until now still - Linux only multi-boot.
