Owh really? thanks Donald... I just need some good cheap model for dual core
or core duo that can simply works without having to recompile kernel or
better if I don't have to install additional drivers. I've go through
pricelists from lowyat and there is none of those mobo models are listed on
the linux HCL or hardware database.
some linux friends suggest me not to use SiS chip mobo and go for intel chip
but I didn't found one model that I can try yet... I'm a bit afraid to
gamble coz I've experienced dealing with a mobo that is not linux compatible
and I'm wasting lot of my time to make it works. At the beginning, I hope
someone with one good working spec can share his/her Ubuntu PC spec... maybe
some mobo model that I can find at Lowyat.
Yesterday, I went to Lowyat to get some answers but I got really bad replies
from lowyat. Most of them didn't know anything about linux or Ubuntu. There
is one 'ah soh' that confidently tell me that I can simply install linux or
what so ever i ask her on her PC package. I asked her can I change the mobo
if it didn't work as she said? she said "kenot lar"... then, that's mean I
have to gamble again.
I found a guy that said he have an Acer model pre-installed wif linux but he
didn't know much about his product. I have to pay first if I want to see the
PC running just to know which distro... Huh, I said no thanks!!
so, if there is still no specific model suggestions, I will have to buy any
available mobo that I think will work and I'm gambling on it. If it simply
works, I win and if not, I'll have to waste more time to fix it which I
don't like to.
One more thing... I think, I wanna add pixelview tv card for composite video
recording. have any of you successfully did that? I heard that I can record
the composite video via VLC.
Anyway, thanks for all your infos... I'll continue my journey to build this
100% Ubuntu workstation that can make my friend forget the old WinXP. I hope
I can share my success stories soon... wish me luck!
