You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If a file, e.g. OpenOffice document attached to an e-mail, is downloaded
in Firefox, the user selects "Open with OpenOffice.org", the document is
edited, and then saved, the file will be saved to the /tmp directory.
On reboot, the file will be permanently deleted by the bootclean script.
This results in data loss of important documents.

Some potential solutions could include the following:

* OpenOffice.org warns the user if it is saving a file to a location that will be deleted on reboot;
* Firefox downloads opened files to a temporary directory that will not be cleaned out, e.g. in the user's home directory;
* Bootclean script does not delete all user files in /tmp by default; or
* A particular directory in /tmp used for opened downloads is not deleted by bootclean script.
