Which mirrors get selected to be listed in the release announcemenmts?

As far as I know, Ubuntu has a script that checks the mirrors for the
latest iso's that should be available. I guess they copy-pasted that
list in the email. In the real release, they usually redirect to
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and not to specific mirrors.
The list at getubuntu is automatically generated from the results of the
mirror checker.

It seems that responses from the Canonical mirror team are very hard to
get. It usually helps (although it shouldn't make any difference) to go
to #ubuntu-mirrors on freenode where some Canonical employees are too...
