Friends,

Many of us were worried about the quality of translations and
standardization. Since Open Source software are now facing direct
competition with closed source Windows in Urdu Localization Packs, It is
more important now than ever to maintain quality, consistency and standards
during the localization. Some government organizations working on projects
to standardize computer vocabulary have their work hidden behind passwords
and no one is allowed to use them until they come out of beta. Some of them
contributed to Microsofts Localization pack and hence the glossary they used
is not easily available on the web. Even this work was available online it
was useless in many ways (see discussions on Urdu Mehfil).

After several threads of discussions over at Urdu Mehfil, we have released
first version of Localization Policy Guidlines for Urdu Translators.

http://www.urduweb.org/wiki/LocalizationPolicyGuideline

Have a look at it and share your comments on either Urdu Mehfil or here.

The aim of this document is not to take over the projects and limelight but
to provide a general guideline. We thought that knowing about the existence
of such a document would attract more people to volunteer in localization
projects. I would strongly recommend that translators read this document and
take advantage of tools provided by UrduWeb.org such as Translation Review,
Technical Review, Urdu Word Bank and Mehfil forums.
