Hi John,
It would help to solve your problem if we knew the exact point you get
stuck at - which ubuntu version (the name of the .iso you downloaded,
or the name printed on the cd, if it is a real ubuntu cd), what is the
make and model of pc, memory, hard disk etc.
The normal ubuntu desktop is a 'live' cd. meaning you boot from the cd
and get a complete running system off the cd without (yet) installing
anything. Then there is an 'install' icon on the desktop to actually
install permanently onto your pc - are you getting to that stage?
If you don't get to that stage, it is probably because you dont have
enough memory - or because of some acpi or apm setting of your pc.
Let us know if you are still stuck, and provide the information needed
Tony
