In response to these points, I have gone ahead and prepared a diff
against [1] to try and incorporate the suggestions Joseph made. I also
noticed that several of the points under 'This document aims to' are
never addressed in the document. I have some ideas concerning them,
but I believe that more discussion is necessary before it would be
appropriate to add anything about them to the document.
