RealTek NIC cards suck on Linux. I think they are from from Intex. There was a lengthy Talk on Orkut Ubuntu India Community regarding this... May people complained about this... They never work fine on Linux. I suggest you to go for D-Link / any other NIC cards. D-Link even ships with Linux driver CD. Don't think you will ever need it anyways... D-link costs around 300rs. You can get a decent one for 200+.

Linux supports almost 99% of Wired NIC cards.
But This one is an exception...

Welcome aboard! I would recommend that you join our mailing list by
visiting https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
Regarding the driver for RTL8139D Ethernet card, I _think_ it should
work with the 8139too driver which is bundled with the Linux kernel by
default. If it doesn't work out of the box, you may need to hack the
kernel a bit ...

Regards,
BG
