Too many assumptions

One major reason Windows users get frustrated trying to migrate to any
linux distro is poor documentation style. The linux world assumes people
automatically understand what things like "~" mean and automatically
assumes new users will know to open terminal or nautilus to type
commands. When telling people to do X/Y/Z command, start the sentence
with open terminal/nautilus/widget manager or whatever it is they need
to run the command in, do not assume people automatically know this
stuff. You need a "conventions of use" document to explain all the stuff
linux people assume everyone knows as soon as linux boots. It needs to
be simple, plain language and properly indexed. Indexing in the linux
world flat out sucks! Anyone should be able to type the word symbol or
symbols and have a page of various symbols like "~" pop up with
definitions and usage, similarly typing the word sudo should pop up a
page with it's definition, what it does and syntax examples.
Docs with links as the contents are OK but, you end up wading through
pages stuff you don't need because it is not broken down far enough at
times to find exactly what you need. As opften as not I find that where
I think something should be has little or nothing on the specific thing
I'm trying to learn about. Index! Index! Index!
