A general "Internet connection helper" (for wireless, modems etc) would
be a nice feature, but one which I think should be developed outside of
the documentation team (of course, members of the team could work on
it). It would be possible to design something like this, but I could see
it being a nightmare to work around all of the special cases that I'm
sure would be required. How about getting in touch with ubuntu-devel
about this?

The code is available from my bzr branch [1], in the welcome-centre
directory. It was intended as something different, but could easily be
modified to fit this purpose.

Thanks,

Phil
