Thank you for the hint. This is what worked for me:

sbuild -d plucky --extra-repository="deb
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu plucky-proposed main universe"
--build-dep-resolver=aspcud

But then I went back and realized that in Julian's original email, it
works by just using sbuild -d plucky-proposed . So my actual problem
was that I was trying to override $unshare_mmdebstrap_extra_args
because I don't know of a simple way to do a few things I want on top
of the Ubuntu customizations. Like I wrote in a previous email on this
thread.
