On my system, with my paltry photo collection loaded, f-spot
uses 33MB RSS. Minus 16MB of shared. And I can subtract
that 16MB because I use banshee/muine and tomboy. And
gthumb, with my largest folder loaded(40 pictures), uses
18MB minus 12MB shared. So yes, f-spot does use more, but
98MB? No, no where close.
Having said that, I like f-spot better than gthumb. The way
it organizes pictures is far better than gthumb. Also, if
you have a problem with the way it stores pictures it
imports, you can use symlinks to move that directory off
onto another partition or another device. That, or you
could file a bug against f-spot saying that that should be
configurable.
Also, ubuntu-desktop isn't something holy that blesses your
machine as a true Ubuntu machine. You can remove it if your
running a stable distribution and have no problems.
