compiling ubuntu from scratch

I don't believe such documentation exists. The process is non-trivial --
you'd need to build packages by hand until you've satisfied circular
build dependencies, and then let a build daemon handle the rest. You'd
also need to figure out how you want to handle security updates.

It's a mess. I don't recommend doing it.
