compiling ubuntu from scratch

Hi all,
Can someone guide me to some online/offline docs which tell me how to
compile Ubuntu from scratch.
I plan to offer machine-customized versions to others. I want to compile
the standard packages, burn them to an iso.
The reason for this is that i administer loads of Athlon XP based
machines, and i guess i could have a great increase in speedup by
compiling them for the particular architecture.
High Speed + Ubuntu = rocks!
