I suggest you get involved in the Ubuntu Desktop team. Our wiki page [1]
lists our goals, what we try to do and where we want to go. We have a
mailing list [2] and an [3] irc channel too and we're happy to grow a
bigger team.

The Ubuntu Desktop team participates in Ubuntu's Bug Days and we'd be
very happy if we could fix Ubuntu's bugs and forward the patches for
doing this to the upstream developers. General communication works over
bug reports.

If you have any trouble finding your way into the Desktop Team, please
feel free to mail me.

Have a nice day,
 Daniel
