Hoary on a PII 266 with 256MB was slow, close to unusable, with Gnome and a 
tad better with XFCE. Windows 2000 was behaving much better (including 
Firefox being way faster).

That machine is now my server and works better as is.

Just to explain how real world can be different than developers' world.
