I know lots of people, that share their desktop with other
colleagues. I'm not talking about my desktop at home.

That's why I wrote "Just my 2 cents". I can't evaluate whether this
is worth a change in Ubuntu's defaults. chown -R did the job for me
so far. I just wanted to question your "usually" :-).
