Your solutions are very good Scott, but you are in a Computer Science
Dept of an University!

I am speaking about "common" companies, small & medium ones, where the
only knowledge is M$ and for which I have found very hard to convince
IT depts in switching to Linux.

The very first opposition comes directly from the IT people, and then
it spreads down until the secretary. My idea was to have a strong -
but simple -  global configuration system.

We should try not to think only about our experiences. People in this
list of course know how to fix the problem.
