GUI Based Installer

I was talking about this topic a few days ago on this list, and I have
talked to a few of my friends and we are interested in doing this for
overlay to debconf/debian.  I remember someone mentioning that there was
previous work on such a project.  I am looking to see who was working on it
and if they had some info.
