Kernel install in boot with GRUB

That sounds like a knotty task. Is lilo not yet deprecated for Ubuntu
12.04+ on all platforms?
Ok, myself is a limited sample, but I've not seen it in the last 10ish
years even on non-Debian.

What if the added symlinks were only done for Grub, or can't the installer
work out what the bootloader is?

It sounds like what I am suggesting is in line with current thinking and
if no current enhancement request
exists (I can't find one) then I ask that I should create this one.

I don't think I've got the knowledge or regression test platforms to be
able to determine the effects.

I'll leave this thread for a few days to give other a chance to chip in.

Regards,
Jason.

One problem is that the default lilo configuration had problems with it
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=329994). I'd like to
see everything collected in /boot, indeed, but somebody is going to need
to go through base-installer and kernel packaging revision history in
some detail to work out all of the ramifications.
