[ubuntu-cloud] Eliminating lucid grub-probe: error: Possible? Advisable?

Hi,
With (at least?) the following two AMIs from
http://cloud.ubuntu.com/ami/ (lucid 64 ebs)
      sa-east-1: ami-645f8079
      us-east-1: ami-55dc0b3c

I see this error:

/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sda1.
Check your device.map.

Which is this issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/671097

The issue is fixed in that the exit value is now zero, but I am
wondering if there is something to be done that eliminates this error
totally?
That is is it 'safe' to uninstall some of the linux packages, and if so which?
Or is this really best left alone?

Best wishes
