linux equivalent to corel draw?

Xara

Is by far the most interesting replacement for Corel Draw. At first glance
the xar flie format looks like a direct access tar file. The file is composed of a tree structure of records. This reminds me a lot of directory which is a tree structure of files. hmm. Down side it does not use the svg xml file format.

Ths saving grace is, it has text format, which might allow me to merge changes from various developers. But if the xar file is just a zip container like the openoffice odf files. Then it is also usable.

Xara is definately on my watch list.

Gimp

pixel graphics, I guess it has a svg plugin. Gimp sure has improved a lot. But this tool doesn't quite fit what I am looking for. Perhaps I can use it for what I need. Gimp from the looks is first and formost a pixel graphics tools, which might be able to do some vector work, but I haven't figured out how.

Inkscape

wow, much better then I expected. I will have to give this one a more complete feature test. My biggest complaint is help pages. Why don't they include html search able help pages? As a result learning this program is a real pain!!
Ok after reading the manual it is not so bad. But why was the manual so hard to find. I don't like tutorials, give me the manual any day!!!
Up side, svg xml file format, which should make merging changes possible.

Scribus

Nice help, includes a manual :)
Not quite what I am looking for.
Why should I ask people to learn scribus? What does it offer that openoffice does not?
The problem is training by far the largest expense. It is a much larger expense then software. Which goes back to my beef with Inkscape. It is not so bad after I was able find the manual :)

Cheers

Xara is not packaged except for Edgy, not something that a work
computer should be running. GIMP is for Raster images, Corel Draw is a
vector editor. Blender is for 3D work, again not the same niche as
Corel Draw.
